Shot Scope Pro L5

The Shot Scope Pro L5 is a 7x slope laser with an OLED display, a built-in cart magnet and lifetime access to GPS maps in the free Shot Scope app, listed at $229.99.

Why it made the list

The Pro L5 is Shot Scope’s first OLED rangefinder, and it brings features usually found on pricier lasers down to a mid price. You get 7x magnification, a range of up to 1,300 yards and accuracy within one yard. The OLED display offers higher contrast than traditional LCD optics, which makes numbers easier to read against a bright sky.

Each Pro L5 also comes with lifetime access to GPS aerial maps in the free Shot Scope app, showing front, middle and back distances along with hazards and layup zones. That gives you laser precision for the pin and GPS context for the rest of the hole without buying a second device.

What it does well

The display has five brightness levels, so you can turn it down on overcast days and up in full sun.

Target Lock Vibration buzzes when you’ve hit the flag, and Shot Scope’s Gen 2 Rapid Fire system is built to find the target quickly.

Adaptive Slope gives you a plays-like number and shows the slope percentage on screen, so you can see how steep the shot is. A switch on the side turns off Adaptive Slope for tournament play.

The extra-strong built-in magnet attaches the laser to a golf cart, so it’s always at hand when you ride.

Who it’s for

Golfers who want premium features like 7x optics, OLED and a magnet at a fair price. The free GPS app makes it a good choice for players who don’t own a GPS watch.

Who should skip it

At 340 grams, about 12 oz, it’s heavier than many lasers at this price, which you’ll feel if you walk and carry it in a pocket. Golfers who want a rechargeable battery should look at other models.

Key specs, explained

The body measures 117 x 40 x 70 mm. One replaceable CR2 battery lasts about 5,800 measures, and the OLED display uses less power than older screens. Readings show in yards or meters. Shot Scope doesn’t publish an IP rating, so treat it as water resistant and keep it covered in heavy rain.

How it compares

The Precision Pro NX10 Slope has a similar magnet and slope switch, plus swappable skins, but uses 6x optics and an LCD. The Callaway Pro XS+ matches the 7x and OLED and adds a rechargeable battery, at a higher price. The Pro L5 gives the most features per dollar of the three.

Good to know

Shot Scope covers the Pro L5 with a 2-year warranty, and a premium carry case that clips to your bag comes in the box. Adaptive Slope must be off for competition under the Rules of Golf; the side switch keeps the device compliant. It comes in white or black.
