- CNC-milled grooves with a new face blast for wet conditions
- Four grinds: Versatile, Drop, Widelow and Tour
Why it made the cut
The Cobra KING Wedge is a metal injection molded 8620 steel wedge with four grinds and a center of gravity that rises as the loft goes up, now on sale at Cobra for $129.
Why it made the list
A beginner’s first wedge should be easy to pick and fairly priced. The KING covers both. Cobra changes the center of gravity by loft: it sits low in the 48° to 52° wedges, in the middle on the 54° and 56°, and high in the 58° and 60°. That setup is meant to give each wedge the right flight, from full shots with the gap wedge to soft pitches with the lob wedge.
Golf Digest gave the KING a 4.0 score and a Silver medal on its 2026 Hot List, with a top 5 performance result among high handicappers. At Cobra’s sale price of $129, down from $169, it is one of the lowest priced wedges in this guide.
What it does well
- Moves the center of gravity from low to high as loft rises for a matched flight
- Uses CNC-milled grooves and a new face blast to help spin in wet conditions
- Is made from 8620 steel by metal injection molding for tight tolerances and a soft feel
- Offers four grinds with plain names that tell you what each one is for
Metal injection molding means less hand polishing is needed, and Golf Digest notes that the polishing left is done by a robot. That makes one wedge more like the next. Cobra also made its Speed Notch 67% larger to improve turf interaction.
Who it’s for
Buy it if you’re newer to golf, or a high handicapper, and want a well-rated wedge from a major brand without paying $200. It also works for anyone filling one gap in the bag, such as adding a 50° gap wedge.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you want a cavity-back head for extra forgiveness, which the Cleveland CBZ offers. Skip it too if you want very high lofts, since the KING stops at 60°.
Key specs, explained
The Versatile grind runs from 48° to 60° with 8° to 10° of bounce and heel and toe relief, for neutral or shallow swings on medium to firm turf. The Drop grind runs from 52° to 60° with 10° to 12° of bounce, for steeper swings and full shots on soft to medium turf. The Widelow grind has a wide sole with 4° to 7° of bounce in 56° to 60°, made for soft bunkers. The Tour grind has 7° of bounce in 58° and 60° for accurate players with shallow swings. The stock shaft is the True Temper DG Spinner and the grip is the Lamkin Crossline 60R.
How it compares
The Maxfli XCW Wedge costs about the same, is forged and had the best consistency score in MyGolfSpy’s 2026 test. The Cleveland CBZ Wedge costs more but adds a cavity back. Choose the KING if you want a big-brand wedge with simple grind choices for $129.
