The verdict

Why it made the cut

The Rapsodo MLM2XPRO is a radar and dual camera launch monitor that adds simulation putting to the MLM line, listed at $899.99.

Why it made the list

It is the first MLM model that lets you putt in simulation. Rapsodo kept the MLM2PRO’s Doppler radar, dual cameras and 15 metrics, then added putting on its virtual greens, faster shot-to-show feedback after each swing and a quicker setup and alignment routine. Being able to finish holes instead of taking a gimme makes sim rounds feel closer to real golf.

The metric list covers carry, total, side carry, club speed, ball speed, smash factor, launch angle, launch direction, spin rate, spin axis, apex, angle of attack, club path, descent angle and shot type. Ball speed, launch, club speed, attack angle and club path are measured, and spin rate and spin axis are measured with an RPT ball.

What it does well

  • A small LED display on the unit shows leveling, battery and connection status, so you can set it up without staring at your phone.
  • A redesigned, adjustable tripod makes it easier to level the unit on mats and uneven turf.
  • The box includes 12 RPT balls, four sleeves of Callaway Chrome Tour RPT, so you can measure spin from day one.
  • Impact Vision captures the strike at 240 fps.

You can also keep using the unit while it charges, which helps in a garage bay where an outlet is close by.

Who it’s for

It suits golfers who play full rounds on a home sim and want putting on virtual greens, and who are happy to pay for Rapsodo Courses through the Core membership. Core includes 30,000+ courses with simulation putting.

Who should skip it

The free tier shows 11 metrics in practice mode, but courses, all 15 metrics and video replay need Core. If you would rather not pay yearly, look at monitors with no subscription. It also uses the new Rapsodo Golf Mobile App, so if you are upgrading, your old MLM2PRO app will not run it.

Key specs, explained

Doppler radar plus dual cameras means the radar tracks speed and the cameras read launch and spin. 8 feet from ball to net is the minimum indoors, and the unit needs about 7.5 feet behind the ball, so plan on a little over 15 feet of depth; taller players may need more. Measured spin requires an RPT ball, which has a pattern the cameras can read.

How it compares

The Rapsodo MLM2PRO Launch Monitor shares the same core hardware at a lower price but lacks simulation putting, the LED display and the extra balls. The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 Launch Monitor costs more, reads putts too, and has no subscription for its core data and bundled E6 courses. The MLM2XPRO makes the most sense if you want Rapsodo’s own course library.

Good to know

Rapsodo Core costs $199.99 per year after the 21-day trial, and Rapsodo Studios, with 4K courses and tracked putting, costs $399.99 per year. GSPro, E6 Connect, E6 Apex and Awesome Golf work with a membership and an internet connection. Rapsodo.com purchases include a 1-year limited warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
