SHED RAIN Vortex Vent 62″ Golf Umbrella

The SHED RAIN Vortex Vent is a 62 inch vented golf umbrella with an Anti-Inversion Strut, rated by SHED RAIN for gusts up to 75 mph.

Why it made the list

A golf umbrella that flips inside out on the third hole is worse than no umbrella. The Vortex Vent is built for wind first, and SHED RAIN says it was wind tunnel tested against gusts up to 75 mph.

It also has the size to keep you and your bag dry. The 62 inch arc covers more than a standard umbrella, and SHED RAIN backs it with a lifetime warranty.

What it does well

• Pressure release vents in the canopy let wind pass through, and elastic vent straps stretch to open the vents wider in strong gusts.
• The Anti-Inversion Strut supports the ribs to help stop the canopy from turning inside out.
• Spring loaded tips keep the canopy tight in wind, and energy absorbing shocks sit between the frame joints.
• The ribs are fiberglass and the shaft is aircraft aluminum.

Put together, the design is meant to vent and absorb gusts instead of catching them like a sail. SHED RAIN says the canopy is big enough for two people, so you can share it with a playing partner while you wait on a tee.

Who it’s for

It’s for golfers who play on open, windy courses, near the coast, or anywhere storms blow in fast. Walkers who need a big canopy over themselves and their carry bag will also like it.

Who should skip it

If you want an automatic open button, this is a manual open umbrella. Golfers who mainly want sun shade should note the UPF 15 rating, which is modest.

Key specs, explained

• Canopy: 62 inch arc, big enough for you and your bag.
• Closed length: 39 inches. Measure your bag’s umbrella holder if it’s on the short side.
• Weight: 2.05 lb.
• Frame: fiberglass ribs with an aircraft aluminum shaft.
• Fabric: nylon and honeycomb polyester, UPF 15.
• Handle: TPR rubber grip.

How it compares

The Titleist Tour Double Canopy Umbrella is the umbrella to weigh it against in our catalog. It has a larger 68 inch arc and a double canopy for wind, and it’s listed at $100.00 against $60.00 for the Vortex Vent. The SHED RAIN costs less and has a lifetime warranty; the Titleist gives you more coverage.

If you play somewhere with steady wind and want to spend less, the Vortex Vent is the pick. If you want the largest canopy and don’t mind paying more, look at the Titleist.

Good to know

It was sold out on SHED RAIN’s site when we checked, in both the Black/White/Orange and Black/White/Lime colors. SHED RAIN backs it with a lifetime warranty, so keep your receipt. Let it dry open after a wet round before you close it up, so the canopy doesn’t mildew.
