- Five Roger Cleveland Signature Grinds, including the returning 588
- ZipCore iQ hosel cores tuned by loft and grind
- Z-Alloy head with UltiZip grooves and HydraZip face blasting for wet-lie spin
Why it made the cut
The RTZ 2 is Cleveland’s newest tour wedge, with five Roger Cleveland Signature Grinds, a soft Z-Alloy head and lofts from 46° all the way to 64°.
Why it made the list
A sand wedge works best when its sole matches your bunkers and your swing. The RTZ 2 gives you five grinds to choose from: Mid, Full, Low, Adapt and the returning 588 grind, which Roger Cleveland made famous. Each sole was redesigned by Roger Cleveland with Cleveland’s engineers and tour players. In the 56° sand wedge alone, you can pick from 8°, 10° or 12° of bounce and four sole shapes.
It also builds on a strong first model. The original RTZ earned a Gold medal and a 4.5 score on Golf Digest’s 2026 Hot List, with a top 5 performance result from sand among low handicappers. The RTZ 2 keeps that model’s Z-Alloy and groove technology and adds new hosel weighting.
What it does well
- Offers five Signature Grinds, including the classic 588, for a sole that fits your sand
- Uses ZipCore iQ hosel cores that change by loft and grind to place weight where it helps
- Pairs sharp UltiZip grooves with HydraZip face blasting for spin from wet lies
- Runs from 46° to 64°, so one line can cover gap, sand and lob wedges
ZipCore iQ is the main change from the first RTZ. Instead of one core design across the line, the shape and mass of the hosel core now vary by loft and sole grind. Cleveland says this tightens distance control.
Who it’s for
Buy it if your short game starts in greenside bunkers and you want to pick a sand wedge by grind and bounce. It also suits golfers who like a soft, traditional blade-style wedge and want the option of a very high lofted 62° or 64° lob wedge.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you play cavity-back irons and want a wedge that matches them. Cleveland’s own CBZ is built for that golfer. Skip it as well if you already have a fresh set of original RTZ wedges, since the alloy and grooves carry over.
Key specs, explained
The Mid grind has 10° of bounce and covers 46° to 60°, a good start for most golfers. The Full grind has the most bounce, 12°. The Low grind has the least, 6°, in 58° to 62°. The Adapt grind has 8° of bounce, a high toe and grooves that run across the full face for open-faced shots. The 588 grind has 8° of bounce in 54° to 60°. The stock shaft is the True Temper DG Spinner Tour Issue Wedge at 128 grams.
How it compares
The Cleveland CBZ Wedge uses the same Z-Alloy in a cavity-back head that forgives more and costs $20 less. The Callaway JAWS Raw Black Sand Wedge (56°) is a lower cost sand wedge from Callaway. Choose the RTZ 2 if you want the widest choice of sand wedge soles.
Good to know
The RTZ 2 comes in three finishes. Tour Satin and Black Satin are chrome-plated, and both sell for $199.99 at Golf Discount. Tour Rack is a raw finish at $219.99 and is the only one offered with custom grinds. Right and left hand models are sold in standard or +1 inch lengths.
Questions about the Cleveland RTZ 2
What is the difference between the RTZ and RTZ 2?
The main difference is ZipCore iQ, which tunes the hosel core by loft and grind. The RTZ 2 also has five redesigned grinds, including the returning 588, while Z-Alloy and the groove technology carry over.
Which RTZ 2 grind is best for bunkers?
For soft sand or a steep swing, start with the Full grind, which has the most bounce at 12°. On firm sand, a lower bounce grind such as the 588 at 8° is the usual pick, because high bounce can skip off hard sand.
Does the RTZ 2 rust?
The Tour Satin and Black Satin finishes are chrome-plated, so they are not meant to rust. Cleveland says the raw Tour Rack version holds its look longer than older raw wedges because Z-Alloy resists rust.
