- Fixed 11 g heel weight and draw-biased shape for slice correction
- FutureFit33 hosel with 33 loft and lie settings, 2° in any direction
- Light MCA Vanquish 40 shaft option for slower swings
Why it made the cut
The Cobra OPTM Max-D is Cobra’s 2026 draw-biased driver, with a fixed 11-gram heel weight and a 33-setting FutureFit33 hosel.
Why it made the list
Cobra makes four OPTM drivers, and the Max-D is the one it built for slice correction. Its 11-gram heel weight moves the center of gravity closer to the hosel. Cobra says that makes the face easier to close and the ball easier to get in the air, two things most new golfers need. The head shape is draw-biased too, and Cobra’s chart rates its forgiveness as “Extreme”, the top level in the lineup.
It also costs less than most big-brand draw drivers. Cobra’s own store had it at $399 when we checked, down from $599.
What it does well
- The FutureFit33 hosel offers 33 loft and lie settings, adjustable 2° in any direction.
- SmartPad on the sole keeps the face sitting square at every hosel setting.
- A forged face insert with H.O.T. Face technology is built to hold ball speed on off-center hits.
- Two stock shafts cover average and slower swings, including a light 40-gram option.
The hosel range is the standout. Callaway’s Quantum Max D hosel has eight settings. This one has 33, so you can add loft, flatten the lie or tweak the face as your swing changes.
Who it’s for
It fits beginners who slice and want a new, current-year driver without paying $600 or more. It also suits golfers who like to tinker, since the hosel lets you change launch and direction in small steps instead of big jumps.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you already hit a draw or a hook. The heel weight is fixed, so you can’t move it to neutral the way you can on some other drivers. Golfers who hit the ball straight should look at Cobra’s Max-K instead, which is the neutral high forgiveness model in the same family.
Key specs, explained
Cobra’s store sells the Max-D in 10.5° and 12°, in right or left hand. The 10.5° head adjusts from 8.5° to 12.5°, and the 12° head adjusts from 10° to 14°. Standard lie is 61°, with a range of 59° to 63°. The head is 460cc and the standard length is 45.5 inches.
The MCA Kai’li Dark Waves Red 50 shaft weighs 55.5 grams in stiff, 53.5 in regular and 51.5 in senior, with a mid-high launch. The MCA Vanquish 40 weighs 44.5 grams in regular and 43.5 in senior and has a high launch, which makes it the better match for slow swings. The grip is a SuperStroke Crossline 360. Cobra also offers a Lite build through custom orders that is up to 15 grams lighter overall.
How it compares
The PING G440 SFT Driver is the stronger slice fix, with a back weight you can move to Draw or Draw+, but it costs more and its hosel range is smaller. The Callaway Quantum Max D Driver has a slight draw bias and eight hosel settings. The Cobra sits between the two on draw help and costs the least of the three.
Inside the same family, the OPTM LS is a low spin model for fast swings, not a beginner club.
Good to know
Some head, shaft and flex combinations are custom only, and the Lite build is ordered through Cobra’s customer service. Check the options at checkout before you assume a build is in stock.
