MacGregor MacBLK Golf Clubs Package Set

The MacGregor MacBLK is an 11-club package set with a 460cc titanium driver, a 3-wood, a 21-degree hybrid, 5-iron to pitching wedge, a 56-degree sand wedge, a CNC milled putter and a stand bag, from $499.99.

Why it made the list

Most package sets look and feel like package sets. The MacBLK has an all-black finish and a milled putter face, a feature you rarely find in a set at this price. MyGolfSpy tested it against four other complete sets and called it “the smartest buy in this test.”

It also gives you options most budget sets don’t. MacGregor offers Regular, Stiff and Senior flex and three lengths, so taller and shorter golfers can get a better fit without paying for a custom build.

What it does well

• The CNC precision milled putter face is built for a consistent roll with no dead spots
• Three flex choices and three lengths: 1 inch longer, regular and 1 inch shorter
• The 21-degree hybrid is forgiving from a range of lies and replaces a hard-to-hit long iron
• Stainless steel cavity-back irons with a sole built for clean contact with the turf
• A deluxe stand bag with a 4-way divider top, a dual padded strap and auto-pop legs

The driver, 3-wood and hybrid all use 100% graphite shafts and come with matching headcovers. Every club has an all-weather grip, which helps on damp mornings.

Who it’s for

The MacBLK suits new golfers who want a set that looks like a real bag of clubs and costs well under $1,000. It is a good choice for players who know they will stick with the game, and for tall or short golfers who need a length option. Faster swingers can pick Stiff flex.

Who should skip it

Skip it if you are only trying golf and want to spend as little as possible; the CG4000 costs less. MyGolfSpy pointed out a wedge gap, since the set goes from a 45-degree pitching wedge straight to a 56-degree sand wedge. If you want a full wedge setup, plan to add a 50 or 52-degree wedge.

Key specs, explained

The driver has 10.5 degrees of loft and is 45.75 inches long in the regular length. The 3-wood is 15 degrees and the hybrid is 21 degrees. The irons start at 25 degrees for the 5-iron and step up by 3 to 5 degrees to the 45-degree pitching wedge. The sand wedge is 56 degrees with a versatile sole for bunker shots and pitches. The putter has 3 degrees of loft and is 34 inches long.

The 1-inch longer option is for golfers 6 feet 1 and up. The 1-inch shorter option is for golfers 5 feet 6 and below.

How it compares

The MacGregor CG4000 Men’s Package Set with Stand Bag costs $349.99 and is easier on the wallet, but it skips the 3-wood and 5-iron and has no flex or length choices. The Vice Golf Boost Plus Complete Set (Men’s) costs $899 and closes the wedge gap with 50 and 56-degree wedges. The MacBLK sits between them on price.

Good to know

The MacGregor store lists the set from $499.99 to $649.99 depending on the options you choose. Target also lists it at $649.99 through a third-party seller. The MacGregor site offers a 12-month warranty, 30-day returns and free US ground shipping over $75. This listing is for the men’s right-handed set.

Questions about the MacGregor MacBLK

How many clubs come in the MacBLK set?

Eleven clubs come in the set. They are a driver, 3-wood, 3-hybrid, irons from 5 to pitching wedge, a 56-degree sand wedge and a putter.

Can I get the MacBLK in a longer length?

Yes, MacGregor sells a 1-inch longer version for golfers 6 feet 1 and up. There is also a 1-inch shorter version for golfers 5 feet 6 and below.
